BERKSHIRE
BRIEF
To transform a steel-framed agricultural barn with Class Q architectural planning consent and create a forever house for a couple downsizing from their family home.
The house was to be practical, joyful, and deeply personal, somewhere to live out the years ahead in comfort and style.
SCOPE
A full-scale barn conversion including spatial planning, architectural detailing, kitchen and bathroom design, lighting and electrical layouts, interior decoration, and full FF&E specification.
The project required sensitive handling of emotional context and a balance of modern comfort with rural character.
CHALLENGES
Working within planning constraints, we had to retain much of the original structure, carefully balancing its heritage with a softer, layered interior.
There was an urgency and emotional significance of the project that added weight to every design decision, as it marked a new chapter for the clients following a life-changing diagnosis.
Spatial planning, light management and bespoke detailing were key to creating a space that felt both comforting and architecturally grounded.
TESTIMONIAL
"Harriet Sale was invaluable. She understood the brief to decorate the entire barn conversion without me knowing what it was I wanted! She managed the job in tricky circumstances and is reliable and trustworthy with a flair for design and colour: the results were fantastic.
Her advice and attention to detail were second to none.
I can't recommend her highly enough."
